Based out of Mount Vernon Illinois, Crappie Xtreme guide service specializes in crappie fishing on Rend Lake. We spend hundreds of hours a year on the lake fishing and setting fish attractors. We fish the lake year around and would be glad to take you anytime. Rend Lake hosts some of the best crappie fishing in the state. Both black and white crappie are plentiful. Most of the shores of Rend Lake have buck brush growing along them. In the spring when the water is high and the fish move shallow to spawn they move into these bushes. If you have never experienced crappie fishing like this it is a must. You also must have patience because you will get hung up, but it is a great thrill to pull a slab from the brush. Buck brush fishing usually occurs on Rend from mid April to mid May depending on water level and temperature. During the rest of the year most fish are caught on stake beds, or other structure in the deeper water. Rend Lake produces good crappie year around.
 
     We are often asked “what is the best time of year to fish Rend Lake”. We always start by saying that as long as the lake is not covered with ice we can catch a mess of crappie. If we were forced to pick our favorite times to fish it would be March, April, May and October, November. In the spring the fish get active to spawn and in the fall they again get active to feed before the cold weather. This fall feeding  frenzy usually fills our stake beds with crappie and produces the best quality and quantity combination of the year.

     We have a guarantee and it is this; if you fish with us you WILL catch fish, and you WILL go home with meat. We guide for a hobby, not a living. If you book a trip with us and the water level or some other weather situation has the fish turned off, we will call and tell you. We do our best to make sure each trip is a successful one.

     Guided catfish trips are also available. Rend lake has an abundance of channel cat. Rend is one of the best catfish lakes in the state!!!!
